has anyone looked at thin 3G client + cloud computing?
basically ,multitouch VNC and a remote service...
would make the battery life really good and with most the android/t-mobile and iPhone/O2 contracts being unlimited data, one could just win big compared with those platforms...

in a sense, yes: http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1378600.1378611
but for a different purpose: security (by avoiding/minimising client side code)
dont think battery life going to be a valid motivation for doing this!
energy consumption of processing a byte is lot lower than transmitting one...
not sure about numbers for the class of devices you're referring to; but for lower-end
stuff like zigbee it 1:1000 or more ...
N.
true transmitting is currently pricey - but we can optimise this for 3G and for thin client, its mostly _receive_ (yes, receive also consumes power, and non-trivial amounts...but it would be worth a try) - thanks for reference!
