android g2 phone....

..we got some for a project (on mobile social nets..) and they are jolly nice (this is the HTC hero) - very very close functionally to the iPhone, plus a lot of cool apps (Doom, can you believe:) - and all this on an open platform....neat...with wifi and GPS on it lasts about most a working day, but with 3G on, wifi and GPS off, about 2 days....with just voice, about 3...so not too bad...nice camera...

But but but... did you get a hackable version? I have an ADP1, which is like the (unsexy and somewhat lame hardware-wise) G1/HTC Dream, but at least it's officially designed for toying around with not just the application-level, but also the system stuff. And this actually works - I have built my own kernel with IPv6 support for example.

we have some G1 hackables - i havnt tried to see if there's kernel dev for the G2 hero yet - the proj we got them for doesn;t need kernel changes (yet) so it wasn't a constraint, but it would, of course, be peachy if we can do that too:-)

of course, we could get a nokia N900
and use the kernel dev stuff from

finally, the really really nice thing about HTC h/w is that the phone (i.e. voice) works really really well:)
